The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
