The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The anticipation about the recent awards show was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, player agency, and deep class systems—qualities that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths you can achieve with a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
